EA Sports

EA Sports is Electronic Arts’ dedicated sports and racing interactive-entertainment division. Formally established as a distinct operational division in EA’s 2023 corporate reorganization, it develops, operates and publishes sports games across console, PC and mobile platforms, alongside live-service products and esports programs.

The brand began in 1991 as the Electronic Arts Sports Network and was renamed EA Sports in 1993. Its portfolio spans football, American football, ice hockey, golf, mixed martial arts and motorsport, combining long-running licensed franchises with online competition and ongoing content operations.

Development and technology

EA Sports’ work includes:

• Sports simulation and arcade game development
• Racing development for Formula 1 and rally titles
• Cross-platform live-service operations and mobile sports games
• Motion capture, biometric facial animation and sports physics
• Audio, localization, quality verification and online services
• Esports competition, broadcast and tournament operations

Its development organization supports franchises including EA SPORTS FC, Madden NFL, EA SPORTS College Football, EA SPORTS NHL, EA SPORTS UFC, EA SPORTS PGA Tour, EA SPORTS F1, EA SPORTS WRC, and Super Mega Baseball.

EA Sports uses technologies including HyperMotionV, which translates volumetric match data into player animation for EA SPORTS FC, and sports-focused configurations of EA’s Frostbite engine. Its Burnaby campus is a principal development center for EA SPORTS FC, NHL and UFC and houses EA’s central motion-capture facility.

Organization

EA Sports operates within Electronic Arts Inc. alongside EA Entertainment, which was established as the company’s other core operating division in 2023. EA Sports brings together sports, racing, collegiate-athletics and sports mobile/live-service work under a dedicated business unit led by President Cam Weber.
