Role Overview
As a Software Engineer II, you will help shape the technical foundation of the FC Mobile experience. This is a technical leadership role focusing on architectural design, strict code governance, and hands-on delivery of web-based platforms, webviews, and rich media web applications. You will partner with the Technical Director and Lead Engineer to ensure operational excellence and high-performance feature execution.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Operations
- Technical Excellence & Gatekeeping: Act as a technical standard-bearer for the web stack. Enforce coding standards, contribute to architecture, and conduct rigorous code reviews for performance, security, and maintainability.
- KPI Optimization & Advocacy: Proactively analyze system performance and identify bottlenecks. Propose and justify technical/operational KPIs (rendering and load performance) and establish monitoring pipelines.
- Architecture & Graphics Governance: Guide the team in building high-performance, lightweight visual elements within embedded mobile webviews using HTML5 Canvas (2D/WebGL) and GSAP.
- Scalable Web Architecture: Design and develop robust MERN stack systems with a focus on database efficiency, Redis caching, and ultra-low latency for high-concurrency, live-service loads.
- Pre-Development Risk Assessment: Partner with product owners and stakeholders to assess technical risks, evaluate feasibility, and outline mitigation strategies.
Delivery Collaboration
- Lead Engineer Partnership: Align on execution plans, technical task breakdowns, and feature delivery.
- Technical Execution: Provide accurate complexity estimates, de-risk execution paths, and take ownership of coding complex backend/API and frontend components.
- Mentorship & Guidance: Provide day-to-day technical mentorship and hands-on guidance to SE I and SE II engineers.
Qualifications
Core Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a history of delivering robust web systems.
- Strong, production-proven experience with React.js and Node.js (MERN stack).
- Experience conducting thorough code reviews, establishing best practices, and mentoring junior/mid-level developers.
- Exceptional debugging, performance-profiling, and troubleshooting skills across frontend and backend layers.
- Strong communication skills and a track record of partnering with Lead Engineers, Product Owners, or Technical Directors.
- Exposure to scaling web applications, including caching strategies (Redis) and high-concurrency environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience developing and optimizing web pages for mobile webviews or resource-constrained mobile browsers.
- Familiarity or prior experience with HTML5 Canvas (2D/WebGL) and animation libraries (GSAP or PixiJS).
