The NHL Technical Art Team pushes visual boundaries and experiences for players. The team invests in future technologies, shared tooling, and production workflows, combining creativity and imagination with technical expertise.
Responsibilities
As a UI / Frontend Technical Artist, you will play a critical role in advancing how teams deliver world-class user interfaces. Reporting to the Technical Art Director, you will bridge the gap between creative vision and technical execution.
- Support the delivery of frontend features at scale.
- Ensure user interfaces remain fluid, responsive, beautiful, and performant across all target platforms.
- Collaborate with UI engineers, layout designers, and art leads.
- Own the health of the UI asset pipeline.
- Develop modern workflows and custom artist-facing tools that guarantee consistency, reliability, and speed for the UI team.
Qualifications
- Experience: At least 5+ years of games production experience.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
- Communication: Effective at communicating with different audiences (artists, engineers, managers).
- Tools: Familiar with DCC tools like Photoshop, Cinema4D, and Figma.
- Scripting/Programming:
- Proficient in visual (e.g., Shader Graphs, Blueprints) or textual (Python, C#) scripting/programming.
- C++ is a bonus but not required.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient with graphics debuggers/profilers (PIX, RenderDoc).
- Experienced with memory/runtime resource management.
- Experienced with asset optimization challenges and techniques.
- A solutions-provider for testing and debugging technical issues.
- Willingness to jump into the unknown and solve new problems.
- AI Literacy: Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools (e.g., coding agents) to rapid prototype, accelerate execution, and automate workflows, with the ability to critically review and validate AI-generated code.
- Culture: A genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies like Generative AI and Machine Learning and their transformative capabilities.
- Passion: A passion for games.
- Bonus: Proficiency with commercial game engines/editors like Unity/Unreal and their UI Systems.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay Range:
- British Columbia: $104,500 - $142,800 CAD
