About Riot Games, Inc.

Riot Games, Inc. is an American video game developer, publisher, and global esports tournament organizer founded in September 2006 by Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill. Headquartered in Los Angeles, the company is wholly owned by Tencent Holdings Ltd.

Riot's first title, League of Legends, launched in 2009 and became the foundation for a broader portfolio of live-service games and competitive esports. The company develops and publishes multiplayer games across PC, console, mobile, and tabletop formats while operating global publishing, localization, community, and live-operations functions.

Games and entertainment

Riot's portfolio includes:

  • League of Legends and League of Legends: Wild Rift
  • VALORANT
  • Teamfight Tactics
  • Legends of Runeterra
  • 2XKO
  • Golden Spatula and Riftbound: League of Legends

The company also expanded its intellectual properties into animation through Arcane, co-produced with Fortiche Production, as well as music, consumer merchandise, and licensing initiatives.

Esports and live operations

Riot operates international competitive ecosystems for its games, including the League of Legends World Championship, the VALORANT Champions Tour, the LEC, LCK, CBLOL, and other regional leagues. Its work encompasses tournament production, broadcast engineering, league operations, community programs, and regional publishing.

The company maintains specialized engineering and live-service capabilities, including distribution platforms, network infrastructure, anti-cheat technology through Riot Vanguard, and Riot Operations Centers supporting live-response triage. Its development work spans game design, engineering, art, narrative, multiplayer technology, and ongoing live-service operations.

With offices across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific, Riot supports global game development, publishing, esports, and player communities while continuing to build entertainment experiences around its game universes.
