About Sony Interactive Entertainment

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is the Sony Group subsidiary responsible for the PlayStation ecosystem. Established in 1993 as Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., the business entered the home-console market with the original PlayStation and was reorganized in 2016 when Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment International merged to form Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC.

SIE designs, manufactures and distributes PlayStation hardware and peripherals, including PlayStation 5 systems, PS VR2, PlayStation Portal and DualSense controllers. Its platform operations encompass PlayStation Network, PlayStation Store, PlayStation Plus, digital account services, multiplayer functionality, cloud saves and commerce infrastructure.

Publishing and Platform Operations

The company publishes and commercializes first-party and partner games globally, while providing developer support through platform SDKs, technical certification, developer relations and hardware devkits. Its publishing activity spans PlayStation consoles and PC platforms.

Supported areas of expertise include:

  • Console hardware systems engineering, operating systems and firmware
  • Cloud gaming, distributed network infrastructure and digital commerce
  • Game publishing, creative direction and lifecycle management
  • Virtual reality, haptic interfaces, motion capture, audio engineering and localization
  • Platform tools, quality assurance and online-service infrastructure

SIE oversees the PlayStation Studios network of first-party game developers while maintaining distinct corporate and platform operations. Its published and platform portfolio includes PlayStation hardware generations, PlayStation Network, PlayStation Store, PlayStation Plus, PlayStation App and Remote Play, alongside franchises such as God of War, The Last of Us, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Astro Bot and MLB The Show.

Wholly owned by Sony Group Corporation, SIE operates globally across platform engineering, hardware, publishing, network services and commercial functions. The company’s corporate history connects Sony’s original console initiative with a current international business supporting consumer hardware, digital distribution, subscription services and interactive entertainment.
