Role Overview
The role is a Full Stack Software Engineer II (Contract Role) based in Madison, WI. The position focuses on building next-generation technologies and applications at the Madison campus. The candidate will apply modern web technologies and methodologies to build commerce platforms and customer experiences.
Location and Work Environment
- Location: Madison, WI (Downtown, near Capitol Square).
- Working Model: Hybrid. A flexible work-from-home policy is offered. In-person meetings may be required.
- Culture: The office offers views of the east side and access to local restaurants and social opportunities. The campus hosts social and team bonding events.
The Team
The team is responsible for building client application experiences for PlayStation consoles, websites, mobile applications, and other services, serving millions of users globally. Key areas of focus include UX, performance optimization, and the intersection of games and technology.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and document business-critical features and applications.
- Collaborate with Product Owners and Product Managers to define technical requirements and craft solutions for the PlayStation ecosystem.
- Champion quality by improving processes, proposing standard methodologies, and driving their usage within teams.
- Develop JavaScript-based applications for consoles, web, mobile, and future Sony flagship devices.
- Build digital commerce solutions for games, media content, and subscription services.
- Write robust unit and component tests to ensure reliability and prevent regressions.
- Operate in a fast-paced environment while working independently and collaborating with internal/external engineers.
- Review and provide feedback on pull requests and design plans.
- Define and refine technical approaches supporting performance, accessibility, and scalability.
- Optimize existing solutions through feature-building and team collaboration.
- Deploy platform experiences through CI/CD pipelines.
- Monitor software releases, analyze telemetry, and adapt based on production data.
- Participate in continuous learning through Hackathons and Café Days.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or 3+ years of relevant work experience.
- 2-3 years of experience building product experiences with proficiencies in UI technologies.
- Passion for robust, sustainable, and high-quality code.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to produce detailed design and development documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, the JavaScript ecosystem, and frameworks like React, Angular, Jest, and TypeScript.
- Familiarity with Java and Spring Boot (bonus).
- Familiarity with GraphQL, REST APIs, and containerization tools such as Docker.
- Understanding of build pipelines and CI/CD standards across multiple platforms.
- Experience with performance optimization, accessibility, and responsive design principles.
- Curiosity regarding AI-assisted development tools or automation for developer efficiency.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base Pay Range: $72.13 - $108.20 per hour.
