About Rebellion

Rebellion is an independent British multimedia entertainment company founded in Oxford in 1992 by Jason and Chris Kingsley. Best known for developing and publishing AAA video games, the company has expanded from its roots in interactive entertainment into comics, books, tabletop games, and film and television production while remaining privately held and founder-led.

Games are central to Rebellion’s work. Its portfolio includes the long-running Sniper Elite series, recognized for tactical stealth gameplay and sniper mechanics, alongside the Zombie Army series, Strange Brigade, Evil Genius 2: World Domination, Battlezone, and Rogue Trooper Redux. Recent releases include Atomfall, a survival-action game set in northern England. Rebellion also develops technology through its proprietary Asura Engine and supports multiplatform development across PC, console, virtual reality, and Nintendo Switch.

Creative capabilities

  • Full-cycle AAA game design, engineering, publishing, and digital distribution
  • Co-development, optimization, and specialized multiplatform porting
  • Tactical action, stealth, survival, and action-adventure game development
  • Motion capture, performance capture, virtual production, and VFX pipeline services
  • Film and television soundstage services, including costume rental
  • Comic, graphic novel, fiction, and tabletop publishing

Rebellion’s publishing activity includes the science-fiction comic 2000 AD and associated properties including Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper. Its book publishing lines include Solaris and Abaddon Books, while Rebellion Unplugged develops and publishes tabletop games.

The company has broadened its production capabilities through regional game-studio growth and its film-production infrastructure. Its game-development teams collaborate across internally developed franchises, external co-development, and platform conversions. Rebellion’s film and production operation incorporates virtual stages, performance capture through Audiomotion, and facilities for feature-film and television work.

Across its different businesses, Rebellion combines internally owned intellectual property, proprietary technology, publishing expertise, and production services. This integrated approach supports work ranging from games and comics to board games and screen production.
