About Torn Banner Studios
Torn Banner Studios is an independent Canadian video game developer focused on full-cycle development and publishing for PC and console platforms. Founded in 2010 by Steve Piggott, the Toronto-based studio grew out of the modding community and Team Chivalry, whose earlier work on the Age of Chivalry total-conversion mod helped establish the team’s interest in first-person medieval combat.
The studio is best known for creating multiplayer games built around tactical melee action. Its breakout release, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, followed a successful 2012 Kickstarter campaign and led to the opening of a physical Toronto studio in 2013. Torn Banner later expanded the series with Chivalry: Deadliest Warrior and released Chivalry 2 in 2021 in partnership with Tripwire Interactive.
Development focus
Torn Banner’s work spans the disciplines needed to develop and support multiplayer games across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox:
- Game design, engineering, 3D modelling, technical art, animation, audio, and UI/UX
- Multiplayer networking, server infrastructure, quality assurance, and multi-platform certification
- Community management, digital publishing, and post-launch live operations
- Unreal Engine 4 and Unreal Engine 5 production pipelines
Its specialties include first-person melee and slashing mechanics, photorealistic character and environment assets, character rigging, and cooperative survival-horror systems.
Portfolio
Beyond the Chivalry franchise, Torn Banner has developed NeverMine for Sega’s Help: The Game charity initiative and Mirage: Arcane Warfare. The studio has also moved into cooperative survival horror through No More Room in Hell 2, for which it acquired the rights and development team originally associated with Lever Games. After launching the game in Early Access on PC in 2024, Torn Banner released its 1.0 commercial version for PC and consoles on August 11, 2026, followed by the Resupply (1.1) update in September 2026.
Torn Banner supports a hybrid, remote-friendly working model for staff across Ontario and Quebec while continuing to develop and operate live multiplayer titles.
