About Remedy Entertainment
Remedy Entertainment is a Finnish independent developer and publisher of story-driven AAA games. Founded in 1995 by members of the Finnish demoscene group Future Crew, the studio developed its early reputation through Death Rally and the noir action thriller Max Payne, then continued to build narrative-led games including Alan Wake, Quantum Break, Control, and Alan Wake 2.
The company creates cinematic action-adventure experiences that combine authored storytelling, distinctive worlds, third-person action, and psychological-thriller elements. Its original properties include Alan Wake and Control, whose shared narrative framework is known as the Remedy Connected Universe.
Development and technology
Remedy develops games across the full production cycle, covering design, engineering, performance capture, voiceover direction, and publishing operations. Modern titles use the studio’s proprietary Northlight™ Engine, a technology and toolchain built for character rendering, physics simulation, destructible geometry, and real-time storytelling tools.
Its capabilities include:
- Cinematic action-adventure and supernatural thriller design
- Original IP creation and interconnected narrative worlds
- Motion capture, facial capture, and photogrammetry-based surface scanning
- Engine and toolset development
- Self-publishing and co-publishing
Publishing and franchise development
Remedy is publicly listed on Nasdaq Helsinki under the ticker REMEDY. In 2024, it acquired the full intellectual-property and publishing rights to the Control franchise from 505 Games, extending its control of the series alongside the company’s Alan Wake IP.
The studio has partnered with Epic Games Publishing on Alan Wake Remastered and Alan Wake 2, and with Rockstar Games on the Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake. Its 2024 partnership with Annapurna Pictures covers co-financing for Control 2 and development of film and television adaptations connected to Alan Wake and Control.
