About Eidos-Montréal
Eidos-Montréal is a Montreal-based AAA game-development studio focused on narrative-driven action-adventure games, immersive simulations, and full-cycle production. Established in 2007, it was created as a North American development hub for Eidos Interactive under founder Stéphane D'Astous.
The studio is known for reviving and expanding major action-adventure properties. Its lead-development work includes Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Thief, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. It has also provided multiplayer, engineering, and co-development support on projects including Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Marvel's Avengers.
Development capabilities
Its teams span creative direction, engineering, design, art, animation, audio, quality assurance, and player testing. Core capabilities include:
- AAA game and systems development
- Narrative design, world-building, and level design
- Character art, animation, motion capture, and photogrammetry
- Real-time lighting and audio engineering
- UI/UX implementation and technical co-development
Eidos-Montréal formerly developed with its proprietary Dawn Engine and transitioned its production pipeline to Unreal Engine 5 in 2022. The studio works across PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, combining internal development with co-development and technical-support partnerships.
Following Square Enix's sale of the studio in 2022, Eidos-Montréal became a direct subsidiary of CDE Entertainment Ltd., within Embracer Group's Crystal Dynamics – Eidos operative group. It continues to operate from Montreal under General Manager Patrice Baig.
Current work includes co-development with Obsidian Entertainment on Grounded 2, engineering and production support for Playground Games' Fable, and projects in the Thief universe. The studio has continued operating through a period of restructuring while maintaining a focus on story-led interactive entertainment and large-scale collaborative production.
