About 11 bit studios S.A.
11 bit studios S.A. is a Warsaw-based Polish video game developer and publisher known for its “meaningful entertainment” philosophy: games that use high-concept systems, emotional storytelling and ethical dilemmas to explore human resilience, societal pressure and survival.
Founded by veterans of CD Projekt and Metropolis Software, the company first built recognition through the Anomaly series before gaining international attention with This War of Mine. The 2014 survival drama portrays war through the experience of civilians under siege and became the first video game added to Poland’s official school curriculum reading list. Its follow-up success, Frostpunk, expanded the studio’s approach into a society-survival city-builder built around difficult civic choices.
Development
The studio develops multiplatform games across PC and console platforms, with work spanning concept development, design, software engineering, 3D art, animation, motion capture and live-operations support. Its internal projects include:
- Anomaly: Warzone Earth and the wider Anomaly series
- This War of Mine and its expansions
- Frostpunk and Frostpunk 2
- The Alters
- Frostpunk 1886 and the unannounced Project P12
Its creative and technical work includes narrative-led design, social and city-builder simulation, Unreal Engine 5 development and custom engine tooling.
Publishing
Through 11 bit publishing, the company also works as a global external publishing label. The division provides development financing, executive production assistance, technical guidance, localization, multi-platform QA, marketing, public relations, and digital and physical distribution.
Published projects include Moonlighter, Children of Morta, South of the Circle, The Invincible, The Thaumaturge, Indika and Creatures of Ava. This model combines the company’s own development slate with long-term collaboration and production support for independent game studios.
A publicly listed joint-stock company, 11 bit studios operates as an independent business and continues to develop new internal projects alongside its publishing portfolio.
