About Warhorse Studios
Warhorse Studios is a Czech AAA game developer creating large-scale, story-driven historical open-world role-playing games. Founded in 2011 by industry veterans Daniel Vávra and Martin Klíma, the studio was built around a preference for grounded historical settings, authentic combat, and branching narrative design rather than conventional high-fantasy tropes.
Its flagship series, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is set in early-15th-century Bohemia and combines first-person melee combat, exploration, and player-driven quest choices. The original game launched in 2018, followed by Kingdom Come: Deliverance Royal Edition and a Nintendo Switch edition developed with Saber Interactive. In 2025, the studio released Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, expanding the series' historical recreation, multi-path quest scripting, and CryEngine-based production pipeline.
Development capabilities
Warhorse develops games across the full production cycle, including:
- Narrative design and historical scriptwriting
- 3D environment, weapon, and character art
- Character rigging, performance capture, and animation
- Game-engine tooling and procedural systems
- Sound design, dialogue production, QA, and optimisation
The company maintains in-house motion-capture and sound-production capabilities, supporting its focus on cinematic performances, foley, and orchestral scoring alongside gameplay development.
Warhorse Studios is wholly owned by Plaion GmbH, formerly Koch Media GmbH, and operates within the Embracer Group. The studio remains active and has expanded its production capacity with a Brno branch. Its announced work includes a new adventure in the Kingdom Come universe and an open-world RPG set in the Middle-earth universe.
