Unity is a real-time 3D development-platform company that provides software and cloud services for creating, deploying, operating, and monetizing interactive 2D and 3D experiences. Founded in Copenhagen in 2004 and incorporated in Delaware as Unity Software Inc. in 2009, it is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange as NYSE: U.

Its platform spans game development and enterprise visualization. The Unity Editor and runtime support cross-platform work for mobile, PC, console, web, and XR, alongside real-time rendering, interactive simulation, digital twins, and development tooling. Unity’s technology is used across video games as well as automotive, architecture and construction, film and broadcast, aerospace and defense, robotics, healthcare visualization, retail, and consumer brands.

Platform and services

Unity’s operating ecosystem is organized around two main areas:

• Unity Create: the Editor, engine runtimes, Universal and High Definition Render Pipelines, and cloud-connected developer tooling.
• Unity Grow: monetization, mobile user acquisition, advertising mediation, analytics, and multiplayer services.

Commercial offerings include Unity Personal, Pro, Enterprise, and Unity Industry subscriptions; developer-cloud services such as version control, diagnostics, DevOps, and multiplayer tools; the Asset Store marketplace; and enterprise technical consulting. Its specialist capabilities include real-time 2D and 3D rendering, mobile and XR architecture, multiplatform deployment, AI development tools, networking, analytics, and in-game monetization.

Creative technology

Unity also produces internal real-time films and technical showcases demonstrating its rendering, digital-human, simulation, and storytelling capabilities. These include Time Ghost, Enemies, The Heretic, Book of the Dead, Adam, Neon, WiNDUP, and The Blacksmith. The company co-developed the Emmy Award-winning Baymax Dreams interactive animated shorts with Disney Television Animation.

Following its 2023–2024 operational restructuring, Unity returned to a seat-based subscription model after revoking its Runtime Fee in September 2024. The company continues to develop its platform for both creators and enterprise teams building interactive, real-time applications.
