About Spud Gun Studios

Spud Gun Studios is an independent, digital-first 2D animation studio launched in August 2023 and headquartered in Bath, United Kingdom. It develops narrative-led animation for online platforms, streaming and broadcast while creating branded work for games publishers and building original comedy IP for young-adult audiences.

The studio combines gaming-culture storytelling, parody and official franchise work with a social-first distribution model. Its 2D production covers the full process from storyboarding and rough animation through clean-up, colour, compositing, visual effects and sound design. Work is produced in traditional frame-by-frame and cutout or symbol-based styles, with Adobe Animate central to its workflow.

Commercial and original work

Spud Gun Studios creates promotional shorts, trailers, advertising integrations and narrative-led campaigns for games and entertainment brands. Its reported credits include animated work connected with Baldur's Gate 3, God of War Ragnarök, PC Game Pass, The Alters, Genshin Impact, Devolver Digital and Borderlands 4.

Alongside commissioned production, the studio develops and produces original animated projects. These include the in-house action-comedy pilot Killer Princess, the adult animated series America's Next Top Cryptid with Explosm Entertainment for Tubi, and an animated-series companion to Melbot Studios' GodsTV.

Digital brands and audience development

In April 2025, the studio acquired full ownership and IP of Mashed from Channel 4's digital unit, 4Studio. The gaming-animation channel provides a multi-platform outlet for audience development, testing and launching new intellectual property. Spud Gun Studios also operates Spud Gun Records, a music label focused on animecore, nerdcore and internet-culture music.

Its services span original-IP development, branded entertainment, social-video strategy, post-production, licensing, merchandising and music distribution. The business operates with a remote-first structure supported by a distributed network of animation, art, voice and sound specialists.

Spud Gun Studios Limited's listed directors are Jacob Anthony Cassels, Jason Guy Mitchell, Thomas Mark Jenkins (Creative Director) and Thomas Michael Payne (Managing Director). Cassels and Mitchell are also listed as persons with significant control.

Managing Director Tom Payne has said that generative AI is excluded from the creative pipeline. The studio uses internal tools for back-office scheduling and remote project management while working with a distributed network of freelance animators, artists, voice talent and sound designers.
