Ribat Studios

Ribat Studios is an independent game development studio based in Rabat, Morocco. Founded in 2026 by creative director and veteran environment artist Omar Souissi, the studio is dedicated to creating original interactive experiences that reflect North African cultural identity. By prioritizing authentic architectural codes and historical narratives over generalized regional tropes, the studio aims to establish a unique voice in the global indie game market.

Core Philosophy and Development

The studio operates as a decentralized, fully remote team, leveraging Morocco's growing digital ecosystem and institutional support to produce high-fidelity titles. The team utilizes the Unreal Engine 5 ecosystem to build immersive, atmospheric worlds that emphasize exploration and environmental storytelling.

• Cultural Authenticity: The studio draws direct inspiration from Maghrebi and Andalusian heritage, incorporating elements such as historical Ksour architecture and traditional calligraphy into its core gameplay mechanics.
• Design Approach: By focusing on atmospheric mystery and exploration, the studio deliberately avoids combat-heavy gameplay, allowing the small team to concentrate on high-quality environmental art and narrative depth.

Current Projects

The studio is currently in the pre-production phase of its debut title, Kasbah. This first-person exploration game invites players to uncover the history of a fortified desert city by deciphering ancient inscriptions and navigating complex, time-shifting environments. As of 2026, the studio is actively developing a vertical slice of the game to support its upcoming international publishing strategy.

Institutional Presence

Ribat Studios is a key participant in the emerging Moroccan gaming sector. In 2026, the studio was selected to represent the Kingdom of Morocco at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, as part of the inaugural national delegation supported by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency (AMDIE).
