About the role
Role Overview
Ribat Studios is seeking a Narrative Designer for a contract, remote-friendly position. We are an independent studio based in Rabat, Morocco, currently developing Kasbah, a first-person mystery-exploration game set in a fortified desert city inspired by Moroccan and Maghrebi architecture and folklore. The game is built in Unreal Engine 5 for PC/Steam and features no combat; player progression is driven by environmental discovery.
We are currently building the vertical slice and are looking for a dedicated owner for our narrative systems.
Responsibilities
- Narrative Ownership: Develop and pitch narrative options, finalize the direction, and maintain narrative consistency as the team builds upon it.
- Documentation: Create actionable documentation, including the story bible, character profiles, world logic, and quest structures.
- Content Creation: Write the narrative content for the vertical slice, including location puzzles, character encounters, and environmental storytelling elements.
- Collaboration: Work directly with the game designer and programmer to ensure narrative beats are effectively implemented into the game build.
Qualifications
- Experience: At least one shipped or publicly playable game where you held primary responsibility for narrative design.
- Design Philosophy: Proven ability to design stories around game systems, specifically knowledge-gated progression, environmental storytelling, and mystery structures.
- Communication: Proficiency in English is required.
- Self-Management: Ability to estimate your own work and consistently meet deadlines.
Engagement Details
- Type: Fixed-term services contract, scoped through the vertical slice with high potential for extension.
- Location: Remote-friendly, provided there is a few hours of overlap with Morocco time (UTC+1).
