About Red Thread Games
Red Thread Games is an independent video game development and publishing studio based in Oslo, Norway. Founded in September 2012 by game director and writer Ragnar Tørnquist, it creates story-driven games built around personal narratives, original worlds and character-focused storytelling. Tørnquist previously worked at Funcom, where he created The Longest Journey, Dreamfall and The Secret World.
The studio's work spans choice-driven adventures, atmospheric exploration, psychological mystery and action-adventure. Its games emphasize multicultural characters, emotional depth and narrative purpose, with projects developed for PC and PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Its production capabilities cover the full development cycle, including creative writing, narrative systems, level design, art, animation, audio and engineering.
Games and development
The studio's first major release, Dreamfall Chapters, continued the narrative adventure franchise through an episodic release between 2014 and 2016. A consolidated edition followed in 2017, bringing the project to console audiences alongside its PC release.
In 2019, Red Thread Games released Draugen, a first-person psychological mystery set in rural Norway during the 1920s. The team describes its atmospheric approach as “Fjord Noir.”
Dustborn followed in August 2024. Published in partnership with Spotlight by Quantic Dream, the third-person action-adventure follows a road trip shaped by language, disinformation and found family. It was released across PC, PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
As of October 2026, the studio is developing Hello Sunshine in collaboration with publisher Megabit. The survival mystery supports single-player and cooperative play and takes place among the remnants of a corporate automated empire. Together, these projects reflect the studio's interest in combining distinctive settings with narrative-led play across different game genres.
