Playcademy

An early-stage educational technology and game-development studio, Playcademy builds a gamified learning universe for K–12 students. Its platform connects academic progress with structured game experiences, allowing students to earn Experience Points (XP) through learning activities and use that progression across a shared arcade environment.

The studio develops instructional software with learning scientists and educators. Its learning approach incorporates guided instruction, scaffolding, worked examples, feedback loops, proactive error handling, and mastery checks aligned with Common Core benchmarks. Rather than presenting games as standalone quizzes, Playcademy integrates curriculum-linked challenges and instructional feedback directly into play.

Learning through connected play

The platform includes an Overworld Hub where students use customizable avatars, build inventories, and access games through cross-game progression. Its educational catalogue includes Math Raiders, Math Quest, Astro Math, Math Cakes, Vocabulon, Math Park, Algebra Siege, and Readventure.

These experiences cover foundational mathematics, vocabulary, reading comprehension, pre-algebra, algorithmic thinking, and applied word problems. Academic work contributes to progression while recreational game experiences provide an additional motivation loop within the wider ecosystem.

Platform and development tools

Playcademy develops web-based games and applications using technologies including TypeScript, Vite, SvelteKit, Bun, Drizzle ORM, and SQLite. It also provides tooling for developers through its CLI and SDK, supporting web-based educational experiences as well as integrations with Godot Engine and Unity.

The company operates private multiplayer servers with automated text and voice moderation intended to support a kid-safe environment. Its platform integrates with TimeBack for curriculum tracking and XP-based progression.
