About Kojima Productions
Kojima Productions is an independent Japanese game-development and transmedia production company founded by Hideo Kojima in 2015. The studio creates AAA interactive entertainment built around original intellectual property, cinematic direction, and world-building, while extending selected projects into film, television, animation, music, and merchandise.
Its independent debut, Death Stranding, launched in 2019 using the Decima Engine, developed in collaboration with Guerrilla Games. The title later expanded through Death Stranding Director's Cut, followed by Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. The studio is also developing OD with Xbox Game Studios, the action-espionage project Physint, and a Death Stranding feature-film adaptation with A24 and Hammerstone Studios.
Creative and technical practice
Kojima Productions combines game design and programming with concept art, character design, 3D modelling, motion and facial capture, cinematic cutscene direction, sound design, voice recording, Foley, spatial audio, and music direction. Its Decima collaboration supports engine co-development and optimization alongside photogrammetry and motion-capture workflows.
The company’s work is structured around long-form, authored game experiences and cross-media development. Its Los Angeles business-development division supports screen, music, and other entertainment opportunities for Kojima Productions intellectual property, while technical collaboration in Amsterdam has supported the Decima architecture used for Death Stranding.
The present independent company follows an earlier Kojima Productions team that operated within Konami from 2005 to 2015, but it is a separate corporate entity. Historical Konami-era work, including the Metal Gear Solid titles and P.T., is therefore distinct from the credits of Kojima Productions Co., Ltd.
Operating under the motto “From Sapiens to Ludens,” the studio continues to develop games and transmedia projects across multiple production lines.
