About Hasbro
Hasbro is a global play, toy, tabletop gaming and entertainment company operating under the trade name Hasbro. Founded in 1923 as Hassenfeld Brothers, the Rhode Island corporation developed from an early business in textile remnants, pencil boxes and school supplies into a company spanning consumer play products, games, entertainment and franchise management.
Its current business brings together toy and board-game development, licensing and merchandising, digital and tabletop gaming, and screen storytelling. The company’s portfolio includes well-known brands and properties such as Transformers, My Little Pony, G.I. Joe, Monopoly, Nerf, Play-Doh, Peppa Pig, PJ Masks, Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons.
Entertainment and gaming
Hasbro Entertainment is the company’s consolidated production division for film, television and digital series drawn from Hasbro intellectual property. Established in 2023 following the sale of Entertainment One’s non-branded film and television business to Lionsgate, it develops, finances and produces original scripted and animated projects.
Supported screen and production credits include:
- Transformers: EarthSpark and Transformers One
- Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
- Peppa Pig and PJ Masks
- My Little Pony: Make Your Mark and Tell Your Tale
Gaming is anchored by Wizards of the Coast, Hasbro’s wholly owned subsidiary and the steward of Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. Across its businesses, Hasbro combines product development, brand storytelling, content licensing, global distribution and digital entertainment.
Company history
The company was incorporated as Hasbro, Inc. in 1926 after beginning business in 1923. It adopted the name Hasbro Industries, Inc. in 1968 and shortened its corporate name to Hasbro, Inc. in 1984. Its growth has included acquisitions of Milton Bradley, Tonka, Avalon Hill and Wizards of the Coast.
Hasbro is an active publicly traded corporation and is undertaking a phased move of its global headquarters from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to Boston’s Seaport District.
