About THQ Nordic Mobile
THQ Nordic Mobile is a German video game developer and publisher focused on premium mobile games, platform adaptations, and indie releases. Founded in 2000 in Giebelstadt, Bavaria, the business developed from an early mobile-games specialist into a cross-platform team working across iOS, Android, PC, consoles, handhelds, and virtual reality.
Following its August 2026 commercial rebrand from HandyGames, THQ Nordic Mobile serves as THQ Nordic’s dedicated mobile publishing arm while continuing the established team’s development and publishing work. Its internal development branch, HandyGames Studios, continues to create original games and support mobile porting pipelines.
Development, publishing and porting
The company provides full-cycle game development spanning concept, design, 2D and 3D art, and programming. Its publishing operation covers international marketing, digital distribution, live operations, localisation, community management, quality assurance, and compatibility testing.
A central capability is adapting PC and console games for contemporary mobile devices and handheld architectures, alongside cross-platform optimisation for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The studio also develops strategy and economic-simulation games, including the long-running Townsmen franchise, and has worked in virtual reality through Townsmen VR.
Selected work
Its catalogue includes the Townsmen games, Aces of the Luftwaffe, Endling – Extinction is Forever, Wreckfest, Titan Quest, Clouds & Sheep, and the 1941 Frozen Front, 1942 Pacific Front, and 1944 Burning Bridges titles. Publishing and mobile-porting work has also included SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and Gothic Classic.
THQ Nordic Mobile is part of THQ Nordic GmbH and the wider Embracer Group ecosystem. The company remains active, combining original production with the publishing and mobile adaptation of games for an international audience.
