About Fool's Theory
Fool's Theory is a Polish video game development studio focused on story-rich role-playing games and specialist co-development for AA and AAA productions. Founded in 2015 by experienced developers including former CD Projekt Red team members, the studio combines original game development with engineering, design, art and narrative support for partner projects.
Its work spans full-cycle production of proprietary titles, particularly isometric and third-person RPGs, alongside external development services. The team’s capabilities include quest and systemic narrative design, dialogue design, gameplay and engine programming, Unreal Engine 5 development and migration, level design, environment and character art, animation, motion-capture implementation, and internal production tooling.
Original games and development partnerships
Fool's Theory made its debut with Seven: The Days Long Gone, an isometric stealth-action RPG co-developed with IMGN.PRO. It later led development of The Thaumaturge, a narrative RPG set in 1905 Warsaw and published by 11 bit studios.
The studio has also contributed to a range of major games through co-development and specialist support:
- Baldur's Gate 3 — gameplay and development-tools programming
- Divinity: Original Sin II — quest design, narrative design, 3D art and gameplay work
- Outriders — level design, environmental meshing and programming
- Silent Hill 2 — level-design support
- Gord — programming, narrative writing, environment assets and character animation
- Park Beyond — 3D asset creation
Fool's Theory is the lead development studio for The Witcher Remake, rebuilding the original game in Unreal Engine 5 under CD PROJEKT RED's creative oversight. It also co-develops The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past.
Technical and narrative focus
The studio’s practice brings together narrative systems and technical production. Its work includes complex quest structures, cinematic dialogue, gameplay systems, developer tools and production pipelines designed for large-scale RPG development. Alongside its original projects, this combination of creative and engineering disciplines enables Fool's Theory to support partners across gameplay, content creation and technical development.
