About Demiurge Studios
Demiurge Studios is an American game-development and co-development studio founded in 2002 by Albert Reed, Chris Linder, and Tom Lin. After beginning in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the company established itself in the Greater Boston area and developed a long-running practice in technical game production, systems engineering, and creative collaboration.
The studio works across PC, console, mobile, and handheld platforms, offering full-cycle development and embedded co-development support for partner teams. Its capabilities span engineering, porting, UI/UX, gameplay and content design, art production, quality assurance, performance optimization, analytics, monetization, and post-launch live operations.
Development work
Demiurge has contributed to established franchises and original games, including Mass Effect, Borderlands, BioShock, Medal of Honor: Airborne, and Green Day: Rock Band. It also created Shoot Many Robots and launched the mobile match-3 RPG Marvel Puzzle Quest with D3 Go! and Marvel Entertainment.
Its more recent co-development work includes support for Riot Games’ 2XKO and Teamfight Tactics, Second Dinner’s Marvel Snap, Blizzard Entertainment’s Hearthstone: Battlegrounds, and Psyonix’s Rocket League Sideswipe. The studio is also listed as a co-developer on Tripwire Interactive’s announced Maneater 2.
Company history
Sega acquired Demiurge in February 2015 for its Sega Networks mobile-games division. A management buyout led by co-founder Albert Reed and Geoffrey Hyatt returned the studio to independent operation in April 2020. Embracer Group AB agreed to acquire Demiurge Studios, Inc. in August 2021; following the March 2024 divestment of Saber Interactive, Embracer retained Demiurge directly.
Today, Demiurge operates as an active Embracer subsidiary, combining a Greater Boston studio presence with a distributed North American development network. Its work emphasizes cross-platform production, partner collaboration, live-service support, and original game creation.
