About Automatik VFX
Automatik VFX is an independent visual-effects and digital-content studio founded in 2013. Working across feature film and high-end episodic television, the company supports productions from early creative development and on-set supervision through final delivery. Its London and Berlin studios serve an international roster of productions and artists.
The studio’s work centres on photoreal imagery: digital creatures and character work, CG environments and set extensions, digital matte painting, complex simulations, compositing, matchmoving and cleanup. Its teams also contribute during pre-production with concept art, world building, creature conception, look development, previsualization and postvisualization.
Production capabilities
Automatik VFX provides production support across the full VFX process:
- On-set visual-effects supervision, motion-capture integration, and 3D location and environment scanning
- Creature modelling, texturing, rigging and animation
- Photoreal environments, period and science-fiction set extensions, and matte painting
- Effects simulation for fire, explosions, dust, rigid-body dynamics, water and destruction
- High-end 2D and 3D compositing, camera tracking and matchmoving
- VFX co-production and executive-production support on selected film and television projects
Screen work
The studio has contributed to film and television projects including Doctor Who, The War Between the Land and the Sea, Heartstopper, The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, All Quiet on the Western Front, Kinds of Kindness, Maria, Spencer, Back to Black, Memoria, The Wonder, The Wheel of Time and Afire.
Automatik VFX works closely with The Post Republic, a distinct post-production partner that provides picture finishing, digital dailies, colour grading, sound design and Dolby Atmos mixing. This collaboration allows the companies to combine visual-effects work with broader post-production services when a project requires an integrated pipeline.
More about Automatik VFX
Founders and leadership
Automatik VFX was founded by visual-effects supervisor Sebastian Barker and post-production entrepreneur Michael Reuter. Barker is identified as the London studio’s Co-Founder and Managing Director; Reuter is Managing Director of Automatik VFX Berlin GmbH.
Production approach
For final-shot production, the studio uses a pipeline centred on Houdini, including Solaris, Karma and Arnold, alongside Maya, ZBrush and Nuke. Its work combines creature and environment production with simulation, motion-capture and scanning workflows.
Early history
The business began as a small team in compact hired London premises before expanding into its current dual-studio operation.
