About the role

Company Overview

The company is a start-up games studio focused on building games that bring people together. The studio values being scrappy, resourceful, and highly collaborative, prioritizing outcomes and shipping builds over process and meetings. They aim to hire multi-talented individuals who operate autonomously and at speed, with every role being hands-on.

Role Overview

The studio is seeking a System Designer for a 3-month contract, with potential for extension. The designer will own the design and balancing of key systems for a co-op job simulator game, shaping the player experience and refining progression and systems that underpin moment-to-moment gameplay.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the design and balancing of game and progression systems.
  • Work closely with programmers to review and iterate on systems.
  • Use Unity to playtest and adjust game balance.
  • Balance the game’s economy to ensure steady player progression and interesting resource investment decisions.
  • Ensure systems and economy are balanced for player groups of different sizes to maintain an engaging experience.
  • Participate in broader design discussions, championing systems while valuing the player experience over perfect balance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of game design experience.
  • Experience designing and balancing economies and game systems.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a small, fast-moving team.
  • Proficiency with Unity.
  • Confidence using source control.
  • Passion for indie games, job simulators, and friendslop titles.

Working Conditions

  • Contract Duration: 3 months (with potential to extend).
  • Location: Remote-working position.
  • Eligibility: Open to anyone within the UK.
