About the role
We take play seriously. We’re looking for curious adventurers ready to find their party, fueled by imagination and drive to build what’s never been built before. At Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, you’ll collaborate with passionate teams to reimagine our iconic brands and create experiences that spark joy, connection, and community through the magic of play. This is your chance to shape legendary play that lasts a lifetime.
At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre-defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to develop friendship and connection. That's where you come in!
Magic: The Gathering Arena is a live-service game, and players notice the moment something breaks. The Services Ecosystem team keeps the platform underneath it fast, stable, observable, and cost-efficient. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thrives in distributed systems, loves a clean and clear dashboard, and wants to help us bring a mature platform into its next era of cloud native tooling.
What You’ll Do:
- Design and implement reliable, scalable solutions in C#/.Net and Kubernetes for Magic: The Gathering Arena to maximize uptime and minimize cost.
- Make telemetry work for us by improving signal-to-noise across Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog. Curate beautiful dashboards that answer questions before we think to ask them.
- Own service developer experience, tooling, and quality of life for internal customers. Solve problems for your teammates and our players. Rejoice!
- Help build the roadmap by spotting high business impact problems worth solving, writing up proposals, and advocating for them with the team and our partners.
- Support the end to end live product development lifecycle and resolve technical problems as they arise in the production environment.
- Bring technical expertise in cloud native solutions and expand your knowledge in related fields.
- Bring quality, efficiency, and effectiveness to a fun-loving, hardworking, and highly engaged team.
What You'll Bring:
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with time spent building and supporting a live-service product.
- Hands-on experience running scalable workloads on Kubernetes in the cloud.
- Experience with distributed message-driven architectures (RabbitMQ, SQS, Kafka, or similar).
- Infrastructure as code experience, ideally Terraform.
- Real observability experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar, plus opinions on what makes an alert worth waking up for and easy to grok at 2am.
- A track record of debugging complex issues across service boundaries, using logs, metrics, and a healthy amount of curiosity.
- You'll thrive with us if you are comfortable being multi-threaded, are a self starter, want roadmap influence, and can hold empathy for past decisions while keeping an eye towards modernizing.
- Bonus Points: FinOps (OpenCost/Kubecost), GitOps (Helm, ArgoCD), service coordination (etcd, ZooKeeper), hands on experience with agentic coding and workflows assisted by Claude/ChatGPT/etc.
