About the role
Role Overview
Join Supercell and make the best work of your career. The Quality Engineering Lead will own the quality strategy and execution across the Player Platform team, including Supercell Store, Supercell ID, and public-facing web properties. This role involves shaping the quality function for systems that touch every player and game team, ranging from real-money commerce to identity services.
What You'll Be Doing
- Strategy & Execution: Own the QA strategy across Player Platform products and services, determining the appropriate balance between manual testing, automation, and monitoring.
- Automation Shift: Lead the transition from manual-first practices to automation and AI-assisted testing; work hands-on with teams to build capability rather than delegating.
- Design & Testability: Get involved in early design and implementation stages to push for testability and clear failure modes prior to production deployment.
- CI/CD Integration: Build and scale test automation in partnership with engineering, embedding quality gates directly into CI/CD pipelines.
- Production Quality: Extend quality practices into production using monitoring and real-signal validation to identify issues pre-release testing cannot catch.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with game team engineering and QA to extend end-to-end automated testing across games and connected systems.
- Central Alignment: Work closely with the Automation team in Central QA to align efforts and share solutions across the organization.
- Release Management: Define release readiness criteria and manage go/no-go decisions for player-facing launches.
- Leadership: Lead, grow, and mentor the quality team; hire new talent and raise the technical bar.
- Incident Analysis: Run root cause analysis on production incidents and regressions, translating findings into process or automation improvements.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate testing across a wide stakeholder base, including Games, Social, and Support teams.
What You Have
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with test automation and AI-assisted testing tools, with the ability to teach and build rather than just advocate.
- Engineering Proficiency: Working proficiency in a modern programming language, familiarity with cloud infrastructure, and working knowledge of DevOps practices.
- Testing Foundation: Strong foundation in core testing principles and methodology, including test design, risk-based prioritization, and defect lifecycle management.
- System Analysis: Proven ability to build deep technical understanding of a system's internals and identify highest-risk areas.
- Transformation Experience: Prior experience shifting a manual-first QA practice toward automation, focusing on both mindset and tooling.
- Leadership Experience: Experience leading QA/test engineering for a production system at scale where you owned the strategy.
- Influence: Ability to drive testing practices and influence engineering decisions outside of your direct reporting line using technical credibility.
- Platform Versatility: Experience testing across both mobile (Android/iOS) and web surfaces.
- Mentorship & Judgment: People leadership experience and the ability to balance testing efforts versus shipping requirements.
- Autonomy: Comfort operating with ambiguity and multiple stakeholders; ability to push back on scope or timelines when quality risks warrant it.
Would Be Nice if You Also Have
- Experience with payment compliance, data protection, or age-related regulation as they apply to testing and release sign-off.
- Exposure to end-to-end or integration testing across independently-owned systems.
- Background testing on PC, in addition to mobile and web.
Why This Role
- Scale: Player Platform supports hundreds of millions of players and almost every Supercell game.
- Ownership: Shape the quality function without the constraints of a legacy playbook; mandate to change how the team tests and ships.
- Ambition: Push the boundaries of end-to-end automated testing across games and platform systems.
- Impact: Manage quality gates for critical services including payments, identity, and compliance-sensitive surfaces.
- Environment: High autonomy, low bureaucracy, small team, big impact.
Working Conditions
- Location: Helsinki, Finland (Onsite).
- Relocation: Full relocation support provided for you and your family (including pets) via a dedicated mobility team.
- Culture: Independent cells, high trust, and a focus on building great teams with freedom and independence.
