About the role

Company Overview

Halon Entertainment is a visualization and technology studio specializing in previz, postviz, virtual production, game trailers, and cinematics for film, games, and advertising. The studio utilizes a small platform team to build the tools used by artists and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain the studio's pipeline and artist-facing tools, including launchers, publishers, loaders, review and notes tools, and artist interfaces.
  • Develop front-ends across multiple surfaces: web (TypeScript/JavaScript), Qt/PySide desktop UIs, and in-engine tools in Unreal, prioritizing fast, responsive, and intuitive interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain integrations with Maya, Unreal, and Nuke using Python APIs, and Perforce on Windows.
  • Work within and extend the studio's AYON-based pipeline.
  • Build AI-assisted features into pipeline tooling.
  • Utilize AI to accelerate day-to-day development while maintaining high code quality and clean codebases.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of tools, including shipping, maintaining, and improving production features.
  • Manage personal workload independently; team operates without project managers, requiring engineers to plan, drive tasks, and set priorities.
  • Collaborate directly with artists and supervisors to understand workflows and develop tailored tools.

Requirements

  • Core Engineering:
    • Strong computer-science foundation including data structures, algorithms, and systems design.
    • Ability to build software that is correct and durable; experience from any domain (games, simulation, systems, graphics, backend) is acceptable.
    • Strong software-engineering practice; ability to write maintainable, well-tested code and design long-lasting systems.
    • Senior-level experience with end-to-end system ownership and high autonomy.
  • Languages & Technical Skills:
    • Professional Python experience for daily development.
    • Depth in a systems or close-to-the-hardware language (C++, Rust, C, Zig, or similar) or equivalent rigor in performance, concurrency, or low-level systems work.
    • UI/UX and front-end ability: building responsive interfaces (web, Qt/PySide, in-engine) with attention to detail.
    • Proficiency and thoughtful application of AI tools in engineering.
  • Communication:
    • Excellent communication skills in fluent English (C1 or higher, near-native).
    • Ability to explain technical decisions, align on priorities, and work directly with artists.
  • Mindset:
    • User-centered approach focused on the needs of artists.

Nice to Have

  • VFX, animation, or virtual-production pipeline experience.
  • Experience with Maya, Unreal, Nuke, Houdini, or similar DCC tools.
  • Experience with AYON, OpenPype, or other pipeline frameworks.
  • Experience with Perforce, or Git at scale.

Working Conditions

  • Fully remote position.
  • Open to candidates across Latin America and Europe.
  • Requires a daily overlap window with the team on Pacific (PT) or Eastern (ET) time.
  • Flexible schedule outside of the mandatory overlap window.
