About the role

CM IMMERSIVE (CMI) is a remote-first video games development studio with HQ in Tallinn, Estonia at ~30 contributors. CMI is focused on creating and publishing premium games for virtual reality and PC, currently known for the Into The Radius series, reaching more than one million players worldwide.

We are looking for a professional with a long-term interest in games as a medium. They would maintain the narrative work for Into The Radius series and contribute to new IPs. The role implies working with one to three titles at once, at different phases, and a variable, managed load, with content outsourcing available.

During pre-production, you will collaborate with Game Directors to develop narrative design goals, structures, synopses. For production, you will implement narrative devices and create content together with Game Designers and the rest of team, for players to engage with. We focus our narrative effort on environmental and production design, player-choice-through-action, an intentionally limited cast of characters, in-game epistolary texts, and simpler event sequences.

We are able consider European Union residents, ready to collaborate B2B. The renumeration is at €2300 - 2800 net. The recruitment pipeline includes completing a one-pager narrative design test task at later stages, scoped for 1-3 hours of work. We don't plan to reuse the results in production. Our goal is to understand how you think, and how you express your narrative intention.

What you will do

  • Get up to speed with Into The Radius as a fictional universe
  • Maintain consistency of setting, lore, themes, story, tone across titles
  • Develop the setting, theming, story, lore further, with reasonable care for foundations
  • Develop narrative as a whole and a sum of parts together with Game Directors and Game Designers
  • Set requirements and prepare references for production and visual design
  • Write scripts and in-game texts
  • Build story sequences in Unreal Engine 5.x with native and custom tools, together with Game Designers
  • Own narrative documentation and pipelines, so that art, audio and design can interface effectively
  • Contribute to localization

What we expect from you

  • You have shipped at least one title and internalized how players interacted with your narrative output
  • You are capable, comfortable engaging with intense VR experiences at longer sessions
  • You are ready to work with more than one project at once, switching between VR and PC
  • You can use the game engine to develop narrative together with Game Designers
  • You are familiar with immersive first-person games, and games inspired by S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
  • You understand and embrace that narrative is shaped by gameplay, constraints, collaboration, production reality
  • You can work in a highly autonomous collective

Nice to have

  • An affinity to existential, surreal, not-happy artwork as a creator
  • Experience developing for VR
  • Experience with Unreal Engine
  • Experience writing for film, television or games
  • Experience with narrative design and story-building tools
