About the role

Role Overview

Riot Games is seeking a VFX Lead based in Singapore to elevate visual effects and maintain alignment across Riot and partner studios for an unpublished R&D product. The role involves bridging creative vision with partner studio execution to ensure skin VFX meet world-class standards through clear feedback, craft direction, and collaboration. The individual will report to the Associate Art Director.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow the VFX craft in Singapore, serving as a center of excellence for delivering feedback, aligning with partner studios, and upholding Riot’s quality bar.
  • Own the full lifecycle management of VFX team members—from selection and onboarding through performance development, feedback, and exits where necessary.
  • Set clear performance expectations for VFX staff and partner teams, providing regular feedback and managing performance effectively and empathetically.
  • Provide clear, actionable feedback to partner studios to ensure all VFX work meets the project’s bar for readability and clarity.
  • Partner closely with studios throughout the production process—from kickoff through delivery—to ensure alignment on creative direction, technical quality, and schedule.
  • Build strong relationships with partner studios, creating an environment of trust, transparency, and shared pursuit of craft excellence.
  • Review and evaluate VFX deliveries, providing guidance on timing, color, composition, and motion to ensure clarity and visual impact.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Art Director, art discipline leads, and Production teams in Singapore and Los Angeles to maintain consistency in workflow and quality expectations.
  • Identify and communicate risks or blockers early, partnering with production and partner studios to maintain sustainable delivery.
  • Contribute to documentation, visual guides, and training materials that clarify VFX standards and expectations for partner teams.
  • Occasionally provide hands-on guidance or paintovers to demonstrate desired motion, timing, or readability.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, openness, and continuous learning with partner studios, ensuring alignment with Riot’s values and player-first mindset.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience creating visual effects for games, film, or real-time content.
  • 3+ years in a lead or supervisory role providing feedback, mentorship, and direction to VFX artists.
  • Deep mastery of VFX fundamentals—timing, color, composition, motion, and readability.
  • Experience with game engines (Unreal, Unity, or proprietary) and VFX toolchains.
  • Proven experience collaborating with and managing partner studios or external VFX teams.
  • Strong communication skills—able to articulate feedback and creative intent clearly across cultures and disciplines.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills; able to work effectively with art, tech, and production partners.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working on AAA titles.
  • Familiarity with modern VFX tools and systems.
  • Experience improving workflows or optimizing real-time performance.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple disciplines.
  • Multilingual communication skills (e.g., Mandarin).

Perks

  • Full relocation support.
  • Comprehensive health insurance for you, your spouse, and children.
  • Open paid time off.
  • Retirement benefits with company matching.
  • Life insurance, parental leave, plus short-term and long-term disability.
  • Play Fund to deepen knowledge of players and community through games.
  • Donation matching for time and money to non-profits.
