Company Description
People Can Fly is a leading independent AAA game development studio. Founded in 2002, the studio has established a reputation in the shooter genre with titles such as Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgement, and Outriders. The studio is an experienced user of the Unreal Engine. Current projects include Gears of War: E-Day (in collaboration with Microsoft), Project Echo (for KRAFTON), and the original IP Lost Rift. The studio is also exploring VR and other non-announced projects.
Note: This role is open to candidates only from the game industry who are based in Canada.
Job Description
- Core Responsibilities:
- Define and build levels with a willingness to perform intensive iteration (testing, providing, and implementing feedback).
- Collaborate with the visual/meshing department to ensure levels maintain high visual quality, gameplay, and fun.
- Collaborate with design and coding teams to create maps and integrate new features.
- Full ownership of the development lifecycle: from paper design, whitebox phase, scripting, iteration, debugging, and optimization, through to delivery.
- Participate in work within dedicated, established Strike Teams.
- Occasional onboarding of new hires.
Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years of professional level design experience.
- Track Record: Experience with at least one shipped AAA title.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of Maya, 3DS Max, or similar 3D software.
- Familiarity with visual scripting.
- Experience with bug-tracking tools (JIRA preferred).
- Design Expertise: Strong understanding of level design theory and practice, including landmarks, routes, lines of sight, and combat arenas.
- General Skills:
- General understanding of creative and game development processes.
- Ability to process, understand, and implement feedback.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Open-minded team player attitude.
- Strong work ethic and self-motivated.
- Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required due to regular communication with international colleagues, partners, and stakeholders based outside of Québec.
