About the Role
This is an existing role within the team, with potential openings for multiple artists across mid and senior levels from May 2025. The layout artist is responsible for CG camera animation using cinematography principles, shot composition, and character blocking to pre-visualise shots before the beginning of animation and allowing upstream CG departments to use as the foundation for shot construction.
Responsibilities
- Camera/assets staging/blocking.
- Overseeing Previs and Postvis ingestion.
- Setup and maintenance of Conforms.
- Shot content maintenance for animation.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Strong Maya knowledge with excellent problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of the visual effects pipeline.
- Good attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues to maintain continuity within the sequence.
- Strong demonstrable experience in sequence and shot composition.
- Good working knowledge of cinematography in a virtual environment.
- Previous experience of scene layout to match previs or storyboard reference.
- Excellent understanding of practical cameras and camera techniques.
- Ability to work under pressure on potentially short turnaround times.
- Ability to take direction and feedback well from a supervisor.
- Organization skills and ability to create tidy scenes for use in the rest of the pipeline.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Houdini knowledge is an advantage.
- Previous experience in camera tracking and animation blocking.
- Tracking and MatchMove experience in 3DEqualizer is beneficial.
- Basic MEL and Python scripting is ideal but not required.
