About the role
Role Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join the IT Infrastructure team. The team runs the plumbing that makes Supercell offices work: network, identity, hosting, monitoring and the glue between them. Customers include the rest of the company in Helsinki, London, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai and remote. The core objective is to provide a platform that works and stays out of the way.
The company is currently modernizing the stack to run on terraformed AWS. Ongoing tasks include powering down VMware clusters, decommissioning Active Directory, and re-working PKI. Every service is evaluated before migration—to retire, replace with a managed service, or rebuild properly. The role involves owning how the company does cloud and infrastructure-as-code, including AWS architecture, Terraform structure/review, integration of AI, and future planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Own how we build on AWS: account structure, guardrails, service choices, and cost. Serve as a sanity-check for cloud designs and explain design decisions.
- Own infrastructure-as-code practice: Terraform modules, workflows, testing, and review. Set standards, teach through reviews and pairing, and ensure the team builds consistently.
- Drive automation: Identify opportunities for automation, build solutions, and maintain them. Help scale AI usage and bring meaningful automation updates at the team and company level.
- Monitor AWS usage by other teams: Adopt and integrate existing practices and solutions instead of reinventing the wheel.
- Operate what you build: Participate in a business-hours rotation for handling escalations. No 24/7 on-call required.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years building and operating IT infrastructure, with several years hands-on in the cloud.
- Deep, practical AWS and Terraform experience: defensible opinions on module structure, state management, testing, and validation.
- Strong Linux skills: ability to troubleshoot unfamiliar services, find root causes, and fix them.
- Proven experience building tooling or automation that the team relies on.
- Ability to demonstrate how AI is used day-to-day to improve team/company workflows.
- Solid automation and scripting skills: Python, Ansible, Bash or similar.
- Experience with observability tooling and a clear view on what constitutes good monitoring.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: routing, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, and VPN.
- An eye for security in all tasks.
- Ability to work with non-technical stakeholders.
- Humble, kind, and respectful attitude; willingness to admit, explain, and learn from mistakes.
- Willingness to do operational work alongside project work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience moving on-prem workloads to the cloud and managing the results (knowing when a managed service is superior to a rebuilt VM).
- Experience running Grafana or Datadog in production.
- Experience with Okta, Active Directory, or Entra.
- Interest in games.
- Experience operating in China.
Team & Work Environment
- The team is small, owns its domain, and divides work by what makes sense.
- Culture of sharing learnings and failures.
- Mix of highly specialized and generalist team members.
- Based in the Helsinki office; values a collaborative work environment and human interaction.
- Works closely with Infosec, Cloud, and Office Experience teams.
- Relocation support provided for the employee and their family.
