Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned and creative Senior Game Designer to lead the design initiatives for our co-development projects. As a Senior Game Designer, you will play a crucial role in shaping gameplay mechanics, systems, and overall player experiences. Leveraging your expertise, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior designers, and ensure that our games deliver immersive, engaging, and memorable experiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of innovative gameplay mechanics, systems, and features that align with the game’s creative vision and narrative.
- Working directly with clients, take their vision and design / delegate features to our internal team and manage their development.
- Design and balance gameplay systems, progression loops, economies, and other core mechanics to ensure a satisfying and rewarding player experience.
- Create engaging and immersive levels, including layouts, encounters, and environmental storytelling, that enhance player exploration and interaction.
- Collaborate with writers and narrative designers to seamlessly integrate gameplay elements with the overarching narrative, ensuring a cohesive player experience.
- Implement strategies to optimize player engagement, retention, and overall satisfaction through effective gameplay design and mechanics.
- Continuously analyse and adjust game parameters, difficulty curves, and progression to achieve optimal player satisfaction and gameplay balance.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior designers, nurturing their skills and fostering their growth within the team.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and iterate on game design elements based on feedback to achieve the desired gameplay objectives.
Essential Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years of experience as a Game Designer in the video game industry, with a proven track record of contributing to successful game projects.
- Portfolio: A comprehensive portfolio showcasing your senior game design expertise, including examples of gameplay mechanics, systems, levels, and any relevant game-related work.
- Design Tools Proficiency: Proficiency in industry-standard game design tools and software, such as Unity, Unreal Engine, or equivalent, as well as design documentation tools.
- Analytical and Critical Thinking: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess and improve gameplay elements, systems, and player experiences.
- Collaborative Mindset: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate seamlessly within cross-disciplinary teams and provide effective guidance.
- Passion for Gaming: A deep passion for video games and a keen understanding of player behaviour and engagement mechanics.
Desirable Skills
- Experience delivering feature sets within a co-development studio.
- Experience designing and balancing AI within a released title.
- Experience leading a feature set and driving development of features with the art, engineering and design teams.
