Studio/Department: EA Studios - SPORTS

Description

Electronic Arts creates next-level entertainment experiences that inspire players and fans around the world. As one of the largest sports entertainment platforms in the world, EA SPORTS FC is redefining football with genre-leading interactive experiences, connecting a global community of fans to The World's Game through innovation and unrivaled authenticity.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years designing shipped, player-facing interfaces for games or interactive entertainment, mobile, console or handheld.
  • Touch-first interaction design: direct manipulation, a coherent gesture vocabulary, thumb reach and grip zones, targets sized for fingers rather than cursors, scroll and drag physics with real weight, and immediate feedback in a world that has no hover state.
  • Designing for primary input: matching navigation, clear focus and selection states, and consistent conventions.
  • Strong visual craft, with evidence in your portfolio: typography, grid and layout, spacing and hierarchy, and color used to carry state and meaning rather than decoration.
  • Treat motion, sound, and haptics as core material; designing moments where a transition, an audio cue, and a rumble land together.
  • Design system fluency: ability to build and document components with variants and states, scale across screen contexts, and articulate when patterns should be reused, extended, or broken.
  • Define when console layouts can scale dynamically to handheld screen size versus when they must diverge into bespoke, handheld-specific UI layouts.
  • Own the UX for platform-specific states and compliance requirements, including transitions for device suspend/resume, inactivity dimming, offline play, and variable network conditions.
  • Leverage best-in-class localization and accessibility standards.
  • Fluency in Figma at a systems level, comfort with AI-based prototyping tools (e.g., Claude Code, Figma Make).

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end player experience for features, from concept through ship: flows, wireframes, high-fidelity design, motion and haptic direction, and support through implementation.
  • Leverage and contribute to an established FC Design System, extending it for handheld context.
  • Define input models and navigation paths for touch and platform-specific input, ensuring seamless transitions.
  • Prototype and evaluate on hardware early and often.
  • Partner with game designers, producers, engineers, research, and product managers to make the feel of the interface a shared, deliberate outcome.
  • Work within platform requirements and first-party guidelines to ensure certification readiness.

Nice to have

  • Shipped a title on handheld platforms (e.g., Mobile, Switch 1/2, ROG Ally, MSI Claw, Steam Deck).
  • Hands-on experience with Unity, Unreal/UMG, or a proprietary UI framework, sufficient to prototype in-engine.
  • Experience with diegetic or in-world UI.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range:

  • British Columbia (depending on location): $104,500 - $142,800 CAD

Benefits:

  • Vacation: 3 weeks per year to start.
  • Sick Time: 10 days per year.
  • Parental Leave: Paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary (12 weeks for maternity, 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave).
  • Insurance: Extended health, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage.
  • Retirement: Retirement plan for regular full-time employees.
  • Additional: Certain roles may be eligible for bonus and other incentive programs; includes access to complimentary games.
