About the role
Job Overview
Black Mack Studios is seeking a freelance environment illustrator to create four full-color landscape splash illustrations for the official website of the tabletop roleplaying game, Chronicles of Myth.
Each illustration will establish the visual identity of one of the game’s four mythological nations:
- Deolis: inspired by the civilizations and mythology of ancient Greece
- Norfjal: inspired by pre-Christian Scandinavia and Norse mythology
- Amajima: inspired by ancient Japan, primarily before the Heian period
- Zharakar: inspired by ancient Mesopotamian civilizations and mythology
The illustrations will be used as prominent website splash art introducing each nation. They should present sweeping, atmospheric environments that communicate the geography and architecture as well as the cultural character of each setting.
Art Direction
- Style: Stylized high-fantasy realism.
- Visual Requirements: Believable architecture, natural environments, and atmospheric lighting.
- Constraints: Must be detailed and immersive without appearing cartoonish or anime-influenced.
- Cultural Approach: Historical and cultural inspiration must be treated thoughtfully. Environments should draw from the architecture, landscapes, and material culture of their respective historical inspirations while incorporating original high-fantasy elements.
Scope of Work
- Four completed landscape/environment illustrations.
- One illustration representing each nation.
- Wide compositions suitable for website banners or full-screen splash sections.
- Full-color, high-resolution digital artwork.
- Compositions that retain important visual elements when adapted to different screen sizes.
- Reasonable revision stages, including sketch approval and color review.
- Final flattened files and layered working files where applicable.
Requirements
- Generative AI will not be accepted.
- Applicants must be able to confirm that the submitted work and commissioned artwork are their own original creations.
- The selected artist will receive written setting descriptions, visual references, and individual briefs for each nation.
