Role Summary
The Data Engineering Team supports real-time, intelligent data insights for PlayStation’s Cloud Streaming offering. The Data Engineer II develops and maintains server-side applications for shaping, managing, and transforming data on a large, geographically distributed infrastructure. This role involves developing JVM-based applications, Flink jobs, and APIs to ensure seamless data flow. The position requires collaboration with the Business Intelligence team to translate product requirements into business insights.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement middleware and backend systems capable of handling high throughput and load.
- Develop and maintain stream processing jobs using Flink (stateful/stateless).
- Implement scalable ETL jobs to enable partners and customers to glean intelligent insights.
- Optimize performance, reliability, and monitoring of the data pipeline stack.
- Support migration efforts of on-premises Kafka to new cloud technologies.
- Perform in-depth analysis of functional or business requirements.
- Contribute to architectural decisions for the cloud streaming data pipeline.
- Liaise with Business Intelligence and product domain teams to translate data into business value.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience in software development and backend engineering, specifically developing/maintaining high-throughput and concurrent systems with high availability and fault tolerance.
- Proficiency in JVM languages (Kotlin, Scala, Java) and Python.
- Experience with Apache Kafka, Flink, Spark, and SQL.
- Knowledge of software paradigms: functional programming, object-oriented programming, and TDD.
- Knowledge of web technologies: REST, JSON, gRPC, and WebSockets.
- Expertise in data structures (JSON, Avro, Protobuf) as well as unstructured and semi-structured data.
- Experience with ETL, stream processing, real-time pipelines, and batch processing.
- Familiarity with software development tools and processes (Git, CI/CD).
- Track record of monitoring/analyzing system performance and isolating bottlenecks impacting reliability and scalability.
- Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with geographically remote teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) at enterprise scale, including OpenSearch, MSK, and EKS.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud deployment technologies.
Compensation and Benefits
- Estimated Base Pay Range: $150,100 - $225,100 USD.

- Additional Compensation: This role may be eligible for a bonus package.
