About the Role
VOID Interactive is a fully remote, 80+ person studio behind the best-selling FPS game Ready or Not. The studio is comprised of individuals from all over the world focused on creating exceptional player experiences.
Role Overview
The Associate Cinematic Animator will help create compelling in-game cinematics and scripted story sequences. This role involves working with hand-keyed animation and motion capture data in collaboration with experienced animators and other disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Creating high-quality character animation for in-game vignettes, cinematics and scripted story sequences
- Working with both hand-keyed animation techniques and motion capture data
- Integrating, testing and refining animations directly within Unreal Engine
- Working with tools and systems such as Sequencer, animation montages, animation layers and Unreal cinematic plug-ins
- Collaborating with designers, riggers, programmers and fellow animators to balance visual quality with technical and gameplay requirements
- Creating character performances that strengthen the emotion and impact of narrative sequences
- Assisting with motion capture shoots, data processing and animation cleanup
- Troubleshooting animation and implementation issues with support from senior team members
- Responding constructively to feedback and iterating on work to achieve the desired creative result
- Learning and adapting to proprietary tools, pipelines and workflows
Requirements
- 1+ years of professional production experience, or equivalent experience gained through an internship, junior position or relevant game-development projects
- Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Maya, including animation layers and the Graph Editor
- A solid understanding of realistic body mechanics, weight, timing and movement
- An understanding of character body and facial performance
- Familiarity with the principles and visual language of cinematography
- A strong eye for detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
- Good communication and collaboration skills
- A willingness to receive feedback, learn from senior team members and continue developing your craft
- The ability to work independently within a collaborative, remote-first environment
Bonus Skills
- Experience working with Unreal Engine or Unity
- Familiarity with MotionBuilder
- Experience cleaning up and refining motion capture data
- Experience implementing animation within a game engine
- A love of playing and creating video games
