About Wolcen Studio

Wolcen Studio is a European video game developer and publisher headquartered in Nice, France. Founded in 2015 as Solarfall Games, the company adopted the Wolcen Studio name in 2016 as its debut project developed into Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. The studio operates across production hubs in France and Romania, bringing together game engineering, narrative, high-end 3D art and publishing operations.

Its first major release, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, began as the dark-fantasy action RPG codenamed Umbra. After a successful 2015 crowdfunding campaign, the game launched for Windows PC in February 2020 and later reached PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2023. The title has sold more than 1.6 million units worldwide.

Development focus

Wolcen Studio develops and publishes games spanning action RPGs, extraction-focused action RPGs and top-down shooters. Its capabilities include:

  • Full-cycle game development, design and publishing/live operations
  • Concept art, 3D modelling, high-fidelity animation and environment art
  • Game engineering, multiplayer networking and real-time combat systems
  • Narrative design and classless character-progression systems
  • Development with Unreal Engine 5 and CryEngine

The studio has shifted resources toward Unreal Engine 5 pipelines while advancing a portfolio of new projects. Bullet Noir, a neo-noir twin-stick shooter developed through the Wolcen Indie Initiative, reached its 1.0 Steam release in September 2025. The team is also developing Gods, Death & Reapers, an extraction-based action RPG formerly known as Project Pantheon, and Wolcen 2, a sequel to Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem announced for PC and modern consoles.

Wolcen Studio serves the PC and console games market, with work across Windows PC, PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
