About vvd

Overview

vvd (pronounced "vivid") is a creative technology studio and developer of an integrated, cloud-based worldbuilding platform. Designed to unify the fragmented creative process, the studio provides a comprehensive suite of tools for writers, game designers, and tabletop roleplaying enthusiasts to manage narrative assets, lore, and spatial data in a single, collaborative environment.

Core Platform Capabilities

The vvd platform serves as a centralized workspace that replaces disparate tools like spreadsheets, local text files, and mapping software. Key features include:

  • Interactive Worldbuilding: A card-based entry system for characters, factions, and artifacts, which can be mapped across visual relationship graphs and entity canvases.
  • Spatial Mapping: An integrated 2D and 3D mapmaker that allows creators to sculpt terrain, paint biomes, and anchor interactive landmarks directly to lore entries.
  • Quill Writing Environment: A dedicated manuscript editor that enables authors to draft prose while referencing lore in real time, featuring support for embedded ambient soundscapes and musical scoring.
  • Collaborative Infrastructure: Built on a modern web stack using Yjs CRDT technology, the platform supports real-time multi-user synchronization for team-based creative projects.

Community and Ecosystem

Beyond its software, vvd actively fosters a creative ecosystem through several initiatives:

  • The vvd Fellowship: A non-dilutive grant program providing up to $5,000, mentorship, and marketing support to independent creators and small studios.
  • The vvd Workshop: An extensible framework that allows third-party developers to build and publish custom storytelling tools directly within the vvd ecosystem.

Operating as a remote-first, founder-led startup, vvd maintains a registered corporate presence in Montreal, Canada, while serving a global community of over 250,000 storytellers. The studio is committed to supporting independent transmedia storytelling, ranging from tabletop campaign management to serialized web-fiction and independent animation.
