About Vertpaint Studios
Vertpaint Studios is a British game co-development and production studio founded in 2019 by CEO and Creative Director James MacLeod. Legally operating as Vertpaint Ltd, the studio combines creative, art, technical and engineering disciplines to support game teams working in live production pipelines.
The studio’s work spans art direction, concept and visual development, production art, asset creation, technical art, gameplay programming, rigging, animation, audio support, level design, and production integration. Its capabilities include Unreal Engine 5 development, photogrammetry, environment and character art, hard-surface modelling, procedural tooling, modular systems engineering, and technical animation.
Co-development and production support
Vertpaint works across PC, console and interactive-entertainment projects, providing embedded support intended to align with client production workflows. Its production experience includes work on Warframe, Deadhaus Sonata and Star Atlas, alongside collaborations with organisations including Digital Extremes, Apocalypse Studios, ATMTA, Crytek, NetEase Games and Moonton.
The studio uses a distributed operating model, with developers and departmental leads collaborating across the UK and internationally. Its team supports multiple studios and pipelines while maintaining a registered corporate base in Devon.
Original development
Alongside external co-development, Vertpaint is developing proprietary game work through Vertpaint Games Ltd. Its debut title, Ritual Tides, is a first-person psychological survival-horror game built in Unreal Engine 5 for PC and consoles. The project combines photogrammetry-based environments, climbing mechanics, atmospheric sound, and an original horror narrative.
Vertpaint’s corporate structure includes Vertpaint Holdings Ltd as its holding company and Vertpaint Games Ltd as the vehicle for game development and publishing activity. The studio remains active across both client production partnerships and original game development.

Development approach
For Ritual Tides, the studio has described using photogrammetry gathered across remote coastal landscapes, manual dual-hand climbing mechanics, and an atmospheric script developed with British horror author Adam Nevill. The game also features vocal performance from creator Daz Games (Darren Black).
In 2025, Vertpaint secured multi-million-dollar growth funding intended to expand proprietary tool development and its co-development services.
