About Union VFX
Union VFX is an independent visual-effects boutique founded in London in 2008 by Visual Effects Supervisor Adam Gascoyne and Executive Visual Effects Producer Tim Caplan. The studio works across feature films, high-end television, episodic streaming drama, and broadcast or special-event productions, combining a boutique operating model with the technical capabilities of a larger facility.
Its work spans seamless invisible effects, photorealistic CG environments, creature and character animation, digital makeup and prosthetic effects, crowd multiplication, and simulations for destruction, fire, water, and particles. Union supports productions from VFX concept design, previs and techvis through on-set supervision, CG animation and modelling, compositing, digital matte painting, FX work, data editorial, VFX pulls, and pipeline integration.
Production approach
The studio operates a bespoke USD-centric CG pipeline alongside Nuke-based 2D compositing. This technical foundation supports integrated collaboration across its London and Montréal facilities while retaining a focus on tailored creative and production support.
Screen work
Union VFX has contributed to feature films including Poor Things, The Banshees of Inisherin, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, 127 Hours, T2: Trainspotting, Empire of Light, The Two Popes, and 28 Years Later. Its television and streaming credits include Black Mirror, The Crown, Moon Knight, Slow Horses, The Sandman, The Regime, For All Mankind, and The Wheel of Time.
The company has developed continuing creative relationships with filmmakers including Danny Boyle, Martin McDonagh, Yorgos Lanthimos, Sam Mendes, Stephen Frears, Susanne Bier, and Fernando Meirelles. Its work on Poor Things formed part of a visual-effects team recognised with a BAFTA Award for Special Visual Effects.
