About The Pokémon Company

The Pokémon Company is a Tokyo-based joint venture that oversees the Pokémon intellectual property across games, trading cards, animation, licensing, retail, and live fan experiences. Established in 1998 as Pokémon Center Co., Ltd., it adopted its current name in 2000 as its role expanded from retail operations to franchise-wide brand stewardship.

Its work spans the management, production supervision, co-publishing, and publishing of Pokémon products and media. In Japan, the company handles video-game publishing and co-publishes or finances titles with development and publishing partners. It also oversees mobile applications, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, animation and film initiatives, character licensing, Pokémon Center retail operations, and the Play! Pokémon competitive programme.

Across games, media and play

The company’s portfolio includes major console releases such as Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and the Pokémon Legends series, alongside mobile projects including Pokémon GO, Pokémon Sleep, Pokémon UNITE, Pokémon Masters EX, and Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket.

Its stewardship also extends to the Pokémon Trading Card Game, animated productions including Pokémon the Series, Pokémon Horizons: The Series, Pokémon Concierge, and Pokémon Evolutions, as well as Pokémon Center retail and the Play! Pokémon World Championships and Championship Series.

Global franchise stewardship

The Pokémon Company coordinates worldwide brand development while working through specialized group companies and regional operators. The Pokémon Company International manages the property outside Asia, including brand management, licensing, marketing, the trading card game, animation and home entertainment in its territories. Within Asia, the company’s Asia Business Division and regional subsidiaries support publishing, retail, licensing, and business expansion.

The company remains active as a dedicated Pokémon franchise steward, bringing together games, consumer products, media, competitive play, and retail under a unified global brand.
