About Tantrum Studio

Tantrum Studio is an artist-driven visual effects, animation, colour grading and post-production boutique based in Toronto, Ontario. Established in February 2008, it began as a creative design and animation initiative associated with TOPIX and developed into a studio offering integrated visual effects and finishing. Its work spans commercials, broadcast packages, branded content, music videos, film titles and experiential installations.

The studio brings together design, animation and post-production capabilities for projects requiring both stylized imagery and photorealistic integration. Its visual effects work includes compositing, cleanup, rotoscoping, matte painting, CG integration and on-set visual effects supervision. Animation capabilities cover character animation and motion design, alongside 3D modelling, rigging, texturing and lighting. These disciplines support advertising and other short-form productions from visual development through finished imagery.

Finishing and visual production

Colour grading and online finishing form a substantial part of Tantrum’s offering. The studio handles conforming, versioning, timeline management, colour-space transformations and quality control for broadcast and digital delivery. Bringing these services together allows animation, effects and colour work to contribute to the final presentation of a campaign. Its broader production offering also includes live action, architectural projection mapping and immersive VR and AR content.

Tantrum works with North American advertising agencies and commercial production companies across consumer brands, public institutions and nonprofit campaigns. Its portfolio includes national advertising, character-driven commercial work and visual content designed for large public displays. This range connects its design background with the technical demands of contemporary commercial post-production.

Selected projects include visual effects and finishing for IKEA’s 50th Anniversary – Rams Nest, colour and online finishing for Special Olympics Canada’s Joy Is Gold, and visual effects and online work for the Terry Fox Foundation’s Finish It. Beyond advertising, the studio contributed to the opening titles for Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak in collaboration with IAMSTATIC and TOPIX, and created architectural projection content for Canada’s Wonderland’s Wonder Mountain.
