Sulkybunny

Sulkybunny is a boutique animation and creative production studio based in Bristol, United Kingdom. Founded and led by the creative duo Karni Arieli and Saul Freed, the studio is recognized for its distinct "Casual Fantasy" aesthetic—a signature style that blends atmospheric live-action cinematography with surreal, stylized CG animation. Operating as a lean, auteur-driven entity, Sulkybunny maintains a minimal physical footprint while scaling its production pipeline through a decentralized network of specialized freelance talent.

Creative Philosophy and Services

The studio specializes in high-fidelity, mixed-media storytelling that bridges the gap between independent arthouse filmmaking and commercial advertising. Their work is characterized by a "handmade" artisanal quality, often utilizing custom character rigging and forced perspective to achieve unique visual textures.

Core services include:

• Commercial directing and advertising production
• 3D animation and character design
• Short film development and IP creation
• Music video production
• Aerial cinematography and drone operation

Notable Achievements

Sulkybunny has achieved significant international acclaim, particularly for its independent short films. Their 2023 project, Wild Summon, received widespread critical recognition, including a BAFTA nomination for Best British Short Animation and a place on the 96th Academy Awards shortlist. The studio’s history of prestigious work includes collaborations with major institutions such as the British Film Institute (BFI), Film4, and the BBC, as well as award-winning music videos for artists such as Katie Melua and Flogging Molly.

Operational Model

By leveraging cloud-based rendering architectures, Sulkybunny effectively removes the traditional technical bottlenecks associated with small-scale production. This technological agility allows the studio to deliver high-end visual fidelity on par with larger facilities, maintaining creative control while producing content for global brands and festival circuits alike.
