About Stellar Creative Lab

Stellar Creative Lab is an independent Canadian animation and visual-effects studio creating high-end episodic CG animation, visual development and feature-quality digital cinematography. Founded in 2017, the Vancouver-headquartered company combines artist-led production with technical pipeline development for streaming series, animated features, broadcast entertainment and immersive cinematic work.

Its capabilities span the full production lifecycle, from concept art, character and environment design, storyboarding, animatics and previsualization through modeling, surfacing, rigging, character animation, crowd technical direction, lighting, compositing and final shot delivery. The studio also develops bespoke production technology, including USD-based asset and shot-management workflows, real-time animation processes and automation tools.

Stylized animation and CG production

A core area of focus is stylized 2.5D and 3D character animation, combining digital performance with non-photorealistic, comic-book-inspired rendering. The studio developed real-time rendering workflows for Disney’s Baymax Dreams shorts and built a specialized cel-shaded production pipeline for Marvel’s What If...?, supporting its illustrated mid-century comic aesthetic.

Stellar has contributed to productions including Marvel Zombies, What If...?, Sausage Party: Foodtopia, Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, The Addams Family, Baymax Dreams and Fancy Nancy. Its work ranges from visual development and previsualization to CG assets, animation, crowd work and final-shot delivery.

Production approach

The company operates an integrated hybrid production model that connects its Vancouver and Toronto production hubs with an established artist group in Costa Rica. This structure supports concurrent series and feature work while bringing animation, CG supervision and pipeline development into a coordinated production workflow.

Alongside client production, Stellar develops original concepts through Stellar Originals, including the sci-fi neo-noir episodic concept Golden Age.

Technology development

The internal Stellar Code Lab software R&D arm commercializes production technologies developed within the studio. Its flagship tool, Slingshot AI, combines generative-AI and automated pipeline tooling for production-ready animation workflows.
