About Sporting Kansas City

Sporting Kansas City is an American professional soccer club and charter member of Major League Soccer, competing in the Western Conference. Founded in 1995, the club began MLS play in the league’s inaugural 1996 season as the Kansas City Wiz, became the Kansas City Wizards in 1997, and adopted the Sporting Kansas City identity in 2010 following its acquisition by OnGoal, LLC.

The organization combines professional sporting operations with sports entertainment, venue operations, youth development, and an in-house creative practice. Its Creative & Brand Team develops franchise-wide visual assets and campaigns, including kit-launch branding, digital matchday graphics, venue visual elements, sponsor activations, social content, broadcast graphics, and episodic video for club channels.

Competition and club history

Sporting Kansas City has earned major domestic honours across its MLS history:

  • MLS Cup: 2000 and 2013
  • Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup: 2004, 2012, 2015, and 2017
  • MLS Supporters’ Shield: 2000

The club plays home matches at Children’s Mercy Park, a soccer-specific venue opened in 2011. Matchday operations encompass stadium audiovisual presentation, fan-facing digital design, retail, partnerships, ticket membership services, and live-event hosting.

Creative, community and player development

Alongside the first team, Sporting Kansas City supports youth and player-development pathways through Sporting KC Academy and its reserve side, Sporting Kansas City II. The wider organization also operates event-management activity through Argyle Events and community programming through The Victory Project.

Its commercial and creative work spans sports marketing, brand identity, corporate-partner activations, fan engagement, video production, and social storytelling. This integrated model brings club identity, live presentation, digital publishing, and supporter experiences together around the professional team and its broader soccer ecosystem.
