About Spin VFX
Spin VFX is a Canadian independent visual-effects and digital post-production studio serving feature films, scripted television, streaming series and commercial advertising. Founded in 1987 as Side Effects Productions, the company rebranded as SPINVFX in 1992 and developed from a production operation supporting early computer-graphics research into a provider of visual effects for theatrical and episodic productions.
Its work combines on-set supervision and production services with concept development, previs and postvis, animation, CG effects, environment creation, compositing and finishing. The studio’s capabilities include creature and character animation, hard-surface modelling, lighting and look development, crowd duplication, matte painting, set extensions, photogrammetry and 3D scanning, invisible effects, and digital cleanup.
Production capabilities
- VFX supervision and capture: shot planning, creative direction, lidar and photogrammetry capture, and scanning of bodies, props and locations.
- CG and animation: character and creature work, mechanical and vehicle rigging, asset generation, particle simulation, destruction, fire, water and smoke.
- World building and finishing: 2.5D and 3D environments, background replacement, blue- and green-screen integration, rotoscoping, rig removal and compositing.
- Virtual production: real-time, in-camera workflows delivered through its ROTATE division, including mobile LED-volume production solutions.
Spin VFX’s credits span film and series work including Spotlight, Suicide Squad, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, John Wick, The Shallows, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, The Boys, Gen V, The Umbrella Academy, Foundation, Raised by Wolves, The Expanse, Star Trek: Discovery, Midnight Mass and Reacher.
The company is led by President and CEO Neishaw Ali, alongside partners and visual-effects leadership including Nigel McGrath, Kenny Girdharry, Colin Davies, Matt Collie and Atlanta-based VFX Supervisor Keith Adams. Its production history includes work on Academy Award-winning and Emmy-winning productions, reflecting a long-running focus on large-scale visual storytelling across film and television.
