About Sony Pictures Entertainment
Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) is the filmed-entertainment and television business of Sony Group Corporation, operating globally under the Sony Pictures brand. Its modern corporate history began in 1987 as Columbia Pictures Entertainment, following the combination of Columbia Pictures, Tri-Star Pictures and Coca-Cola entertainment assets; Sony acquired the company in 1989, and it became Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. in 1991.
The company’s work is organized around the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group and Sony Pictures Television. Its film business develops, produces and distributes theatrical releases through banners including Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Screen Gems, 3000 Pictures, Sony Pictures Classics and Sony Pictures Animation. Sony Pictures Television produces and syndicates drama, comedy, daytime, unscripted and game-show programming for linear and streaming outlets worldwide.
Production, distribution and studio services
SPE combines content development and production with domestic and international theatrical distribution, television syndication, local-language production, media delivery and licensing. It also operates the Culver City studio lot, with sound stages, post-production scoring and mixing facilities, production administration and event services.
Its technical production capabilities include visual effects, CG character animation and virtual production through its wider studio operations. The company also supports post-production audio, editorial, sound mixing and colour grading, alongside digital asset-management and streaming-network infrastructure.
Screen work
Selected film credits include the Spider-Man, Jumanji, Ghostbusters, Bad Boys, Men in Black and Venom franchises, as well as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Social Network. Television credits include Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Boys, The Crown, Cobra Kai, Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, Seinfeld and the co-production The Last of Us.
Beyond film and television production, SPE’s entertainment activities encompass anime streaming and theatrical exhibition through acquired businesses, extending its operations across production, distribution, streaming and cinema experiences.
