Skydance Animation Madrid

Skydance Animation Madrid is a computer-animation studio producing feature films and television series as part of the unified Skydance Animation brand. Based in Spain, it serves as the studio’s primary European production engine and collaborates with creative teams in Los Angeles through an integrated, two-continent production pipeline.

The business traces its roots to Ilion Animation Studios, founded in Madrid in 2002 by brothers Javier Pérez Dolset and Ignacio Pérez Dolset. Ilion became an early force in European CGI feature production with films including Planet 51, Mortadelo and Filemon: Mission Implausible, and Wonder Park. After a creative partnership with Skydance Media began in 2017, Skydance acquired Ilion’s animation unit in April 2020 and rebranded the operation as Skydance Animation Madrid.

Feature-animation production

The studio provides full-pipeline 3D animation production, spanning:

• Concept design, character design, visual development, and storyboarding
• Modeling, texturing, surfacing, and rigging
• Character and technical animation, including CFX and grooming
• Lighting, rendering, compositing, and post-production engineering
• Pipeline engineering and CGI visual effects

Its work supports feature-film, television, and streaming projects. Under the Skydance Animation banner, its credits include Blush, Luck, Spellbound, Swapped, and the series WondLa, alongside its earlier Ilion productions. The studio’s slate also includes Ray Gunn, Cosmic Motors, and an untitled Jack and the Beanstalk project.

Integrated studio network

Skydance Animation Madrid operates alongside Skydance Animation’s U.S. creative and leadership teams, combining European production and technical expertise with story development, editorial, and creative direction in the United States. Following the 2025 merger of Skydance Media and Paramount Global, the animation label sits within Paramount Skydance Corporation’s entertainment portfolio while continuing as an active animation-production operation.
